The Sioux Empire benefits from Class I rail service provided by national carrier BNSF. Several of the industrial areas in the region have rail access, including the Sioux Empire Development Parks, the Worthing, Corson and Harrisburg industrial parks and Foundation Park, our newest development park and South Dakota´s only megasite. Direct connections with dock spurs and freight forwarding service are available from the railroads.
A transmodal site is available by contract through Eastern Farmers Coop in Worthing, just minutes south of Sioux Falls. This large offloading terminal offers space to temporarily store large components arriving by rail. A 120-foot scale provides immediate access to customers needing to verify quantities or check for legal road limits. Two smaller transmodal sites are also available.
For shorter distances, short line railroad service is available. Rail to truck transload facilities are also available for companies who desire to ship by rail but don´t have a rail line directly to their facility.
There is better training for our workforce in Sioux Falls. A multitude of options are available to meet businesses' needs at the postsecondary level including city programs, state grants, technical training, and a new $50 million scholarship program for technical school students.Read More
